As if you need another reason to drink, tomorrow (21 May 2016) is World Whisky Day.

World Whisky Day was started in 2012 by a whisky evangelist called Blair Bowman.

According its website, “World Whisky Day is all about making whisky fun and enjoyable. It’s not about being exclusive or prescriptive. You can drink it however you enjoy it (ice, water, mixer – whatever works for you). We want to be all inclusive and that means any kind of whisky/whiskey from anywhere in the world.”

In other words, drink up!

A few bars will have special events in celebration of this special day.

Smith Street Taps will be serving barrel-aged beers from 20th to 21st of May. They chose this theme to pay homage to the wood that are commonly used to mature or finish whiskies.

The following will be on tap:

–  Anderson Valley Wild Turkey Bourbon Barrel Stout (US)
– Lervig/Magic Rock Rustique – Bretted Farmhouse IPA aged in Chardonnay barrels (NOR)
– Innis & Gunn Toasted Oak IPA (SCO)
– Thornbridge Eikenboom Barrel-Aged Belgian Dark Ale (ENG)

They’ll be serving the beers till they run out. So, visit them early to avoid missing out.

La Maison du Whisky will be serving special cocktails from S$21 as well as World Tour Flights from S$25 to S$150. If you’re getting bottles to celebrate at home, you’ll get a 10% discount when you buy the second bottle (excluding Collectors).

The Single Cask has put together The Battle of the Independents. As its name would suggest, you’ll get to sample six different whiskies from two different distilleries, all of which are bottled by different independent bottlers. The flight will set you back just S$88+. Tickets to this event can be purchased from this link.

From the description, it doesn’t appear to be an event that is put together to commemorate World Whisky Day, but it is still a great whisky event nevertheless. The Belljar’s Weekend Bootcamp is happening this Saturday (actually it started on 19th May) and it features:

– Punch cocktail bottles at S$88 (serves 6-10)
– Bespoke Whisky Flights at S$28 to S$98
– Wines starting from S$38

There will also be a sale going on. They promise that there will be rare and collectible whiskies available at greatly discounted prices.
