Whisky Live 2016

It is arguably THE whisky event of the year. There’s nowhere else in Singapore that can offer close to 300 expressions of whisky and over 60 whisk(e)y as well as spirit brands, under one roof. Whisky Live 2016 will be happening at Sentosa’s The Capella hotel, on 12 and 13 November 2016. Mark your calendars.

We’ve been to quite a number of Whisky Live events in the past and it was a blast every single time. This year, the organiser, La Maison du Whisky, has kept the format largely the same. Whiskies, spirits and cocktails are the order of the day. The Collector’s Room houses epic expressions, which are available by the dram. Last year, we paid good money for a Port Ellen, and it was worth every cent.  You can also sign up for masterclasses, which are all conducted by some of the most knowledgeable people in whiskies.

And it when it comes to people of immense whisky knowledge, there are very few more celebrated than Dave Broom. The Glaswegian has been writing, evangelizing and teaching about whiskies for over 20 years. He has contributed to influential publications such as Whisky Magazine as well as Whisky Advocate and has written many books on whiskies. In short, Dave certainly knows his stuff, and that’s a severe understatement.

Dave will be at two masterclasses – Karuizawa and Nikka.

At the former, you’ll get to taste samples of the Karuizawa 1965 Bourbon Cask and Karuizawa 1965 Sherry Cask. Dave will be hosting a comparative tasting of these two barrels, opening them for the first time at Whisky Live Singapore 2016. This experience should be a spectacular one.

As for the latter, Dave will be sharing his new discoveries when he visited Nikka in June.  There will be a horizontal tasting of Yoichi and Miyagikyo single malts.

Other stars who will be making their appearances at Whisky 2016 include mixologist Rogerio Igarashi Vaz, co-founder and chief bartender of Bar Tram and Bar Trench in Japan, which was chosen as one of the world’s 100 best bars in 2014 by World’s 50 best bar & World’s Best Bars, and Rum legend Luca Gargano.

If you can only attend one whisky event in 2016, this has to be it.
