The duty free store is probably where many of us started our whiskies journeys. The collection is plentiful and the bottles are a lot cheaper compared to what you see at shops and bars, because of Singapore’s high taxes. And if you travelling from now to 25 June, there’s yet another reason to hit the DFS at Changi Airport – the DFS Cocktail Festival.

The DFS Cocktail Festival will be happening on the second floor of the DFS Wines and Spirits Duplex at Terminal 3. For this special event, you can get to enjoy three Singapore-inspired cocktails that are created by the people from Proof and Company.

Here’s the rundown of the drinks:

chopchopla

Chop Chop Lah: A refreshing drink inspired by chicken rice made with: Absolut Vodka, ginger syrup, lemon juice, East Imperial soda, fresh cucumber and parsley.

shiokdate

Shiok Date: Zesty and vibrant, this features Jack Daniel’s Single Barrel, lemon juice, date syrup, Luxardo Maraschino, egg white, goji berries and takes its cue from cheng tng, a traditional herbal soup dessert.

Kiasukaya

Kiasu Kaya: The quintessential tropical holiday drink using the beloved Singaporean flavours of coconut and pandan, this is made with Ron Zacapa rum, Benedictine D.O.M., fresh pineapple juice, fresh orange juice and coconut pandan syrup.

Out of the three, we liked the Chop Chop Lah the most. The experience is akin to eating a mouthful of chicken rice, washed down by a sip of lime juice. Well done on this cocktail. The Shiok Date is nice on its own, but it doesn’t really taste like to its muse, the cheng tng. The Kiasu Kaya is a tad too sweet for our palates. Maybe, it is better when paired with a snack.

There will also be a series of mini master classes, conducted by bartenders from some of the top cocktail bars in Singapore. Most definitely, you’ll learn the finer points of bartending and cocktails from them.

Here’s the schedule:

bartenders

May 20 – 21: 28 HongKong Street featuring Brendon Khoo

May 27 – 28: Jigger & Pony featuring Christyne Lee

June 10 – 11: Manhattan featuring Philip Bischoff

June 17 – 18: The Library featuring Adam Eddy Bursik

June 24 – 25: Smoke & Mirrors featuring Byron Tan

Time: 5.30 p.m. – 7.30 p.m.

Champagne lovers will welcome the champagne cocktail party, hosted by Veuve Cliquot for their new product Veuve Cliquot Rich, that is taking place on June 3 and 4.

And here’s the kicker: the drinks are on the house! And this includes the all whiskies and cognacs that are available for sampling.

So the next time you travel, you may want to check in a little earlier and enjoy a tipple or two at the DFS Wines and Spirits Duplex at Terminal 3.
