Here’s one for those of you who are looking to complete your Macallan in Lalique Six Pillars Collection. The sixth and final expression has been recently released – The Macallan in Lalique ‘Peerless Spirit’.
What’s most striking about the ‘Peerless Spirit’, or the rest of the expressions in the collection for that matter, is the decanter.
This was designed and created by Marc Larminaux, Creative Director for French luxury glass and crystal makers, Lalique. He was inspired by ‘a single peerless drop of The Macallan’. Glassmaking enthusiasts will probably admire the ‘blown and pinched’ technique that were used by company founder René Lalique for his renowned perfume bottles.
The contents are just as exquisite as the decanter. It is a 65-year-old whisky, making it one of the oldest and rarest expressions ever released by the Moray-based distillery. The whisky, with an ABV of 46.3%, was seasoned in sherry-seasoned oak.
It is highly unlikely that we’ll ever get to sample this expression, so we’ll just leave you with the official tasting notes.
Nose: Supremely balanced with comforting notes of honey-dipped Madagascan vanilla pods, cinnamon and Moroccan dates.
Palate: Medium body with hints of cracked black pepper, cloves and delicately toasted cocoa beans.
Finish: Very long and deeply satisfying with a rich flavour of honey and dark chocolate.
The Macallan in Lalique ‘Peerless Spirit’ is yours for S$47,000 (or S$50,290 with GST). Only 450 decanters are available worldwide, from July 2016. Drop a note to email@example.com if you’re keen to get a decanter.
